ABOUT ME

I am of mixed Red River Métis and Settler descent, born and raised in Treaty 1 & 2 territory and the homeland of the Métis Nation (a.k.a Manitoba). My curiosity about and love for the natural world is rooted in a childhood spent admiring prairie sunsets, summer thunderstorms, northern lights, and many camping adventures with my family.

My academic pursuits have led me to amazing places, to learn about amazing animals. I have studied hibernation physiology of cave-dwelling bats in central Manitoba, winter physiology and behaviour of red squirrels, snowshoe hares, and Canada lynx, the ecology and cultural value of moose to Indigenous communities in central Canada, and, even, how to put a GPS collar on a wolverine. Devoting my professional life to environmental science and wildlife conservation is no coincidence; it allows me to feel connected to my Métis heritage, and the ancestral right and responsibility to care for the land.
